Against less dangerous unarmed opponents, Batman has a plethora of hand-to-hand fighting techniques available to ensure success. From higher ground, the player can perform a gliding kick to temporarily knock down enemies, hang unsuspecting goons upside down or use gadgets such as explosive gel or batarangs to do the job. True to his nature, Batman must stick to the shadows to take down his opponents, as open combat against gun-wielding opponents will spell certain doom for the costumed hero. The player controls Batman from an over-the-shoulder, third person perspective that shifts to first person when Batman travels into ventilation shafts or witnesses specific cutscenes. While the story may sound familiar to Batman fans, the gameplay is anything but the usual stuff. As Batman, you must navigate the maze-like structure that is Arkham Asylum and re-capture the Joker while learning of and ending his sinister plot. Before the Joker can be successfully locked away however, he escapes with the help of Harley Quinn and puts into motion a plan the likes of which Batman has never seen. The story starts off as Batman puts an end to the Joker’s latest crime, setting fire to the nearby Blackgate Prison and holding the mayor hostage at City Hall, and returns the Clown Prince of Crime to Arkham Asylum once again. Published by Eidos Interactive in conjunction with Warner Bros., Batman: Arkham Asylum sees Batman once again take on his longtime nemesis, the Joker, in an attempt to stop the supervillain’s elaborate plot to simultaneously eliminate Batman and destroy Gotham City once and for all.
